The main origional aim of this website is to voice the advantages of the Milton Keynes Grid System and why it must not be thrown away now that it is here. I hope you enjoy looking around.

Update December 8 2008:

Recent months have seen a massive swing in events towards helping to save the grid system. The council has asked the Western Expansion Area developers to look at putting grid roads into the development. The V10 has been saved, complete with plans for an additional, new underpass. Successive consultations and meetings have come out in support of the grid system, the redways, the underpasses and the roundabouts. With all this taken into account, the time is now right to demand that the damage that has been done be corrected. To that end, as a first step, I'm am proposing that the people of Milton Keynes demand that Milton Keynes Council and Milton Keynes Partnership take it upon themselves to undo some of this damage. And the best place for that to happen is where the worst damage has been done - at the junction of Avebury Boulevard and Witan Gate, in Central Milton Keynes. I am proposing to ask that these two bodies finance and orchestrate the rebuilding and reopening of one of the lost underpasses at this junction, specifically the one under Avebury Boulevard just west of the actual junction. I am also proposing that, over a longer period of time, these groups and others involve work towards re-cladding and refurbishing the glass towers on the western side of the hub:mk, to prevent these buildings from deterioration further and becoming no better than the high-rise blocks of the 1960s. The fulfillment of these demands would be the integral first step in restoring Milton Keynes' faith in those who control its future, and in undoing the damage that has been inflicted on our city.

Update August 16 2007:

Standing Way dualling: The work to widen the H8 Standing Way to a dual carriageway along the southern edge of the two new Magna Park industrial grid squares is reaching an advanced stage with the two new underpasses on either side of the new roundabout being structurally complete on the northern carriageway section. Tarmac is now in place for 5/8 of the western grid stretch and kerbs have began to proceed onto the eastern grid stretch. Street lighting, although not MK grid road normal, is now in place along the northern carriageway for much of the western stretch. All in all this is good news, and, barring the street lights, the road is turning out to be a very good addition to the Milton Keynes road network.

Update June 13 2007:

City centre news: The planning application for batch 1 of the shopping centre expansion has been withdrawn. It may be re-submitted next month, reasons are as yet unclear and will most likely remain that way.

Update June 10 2007:

Re-worded parts of the green spaces page.

Update June 2 2007:

I have made some minor changes to the wording on all pages of the site. This is to reflect changes in my understanding of some plans - also the V1 north of Whitney Roundabout has sadly moved from 'under threat' to 'lost'. Also see new CMK page.

March News:

Supporters of the A5130 downgrading have responded to objections by saying that the downgraded road is the ''only way to create a safe environment for residents''. The first fault here is that Broughton Gate should be a seperate community to the rest of the Eastern Expansion area, and infact share character and services with Broughton. The A5130, or V12 as it would be better designated, would be a perfect devider. Whilst clearly seperating the developments and providing an essential transport link the road would be easily and safely crossd by a number of over and underpasses along its route, completely segregating pedestrians from the traffic for maximum comfort, safety and efficiancy. I challenge the advocators of the downgrading to provide a reply to that (which doesn't use feeble excuses like 'underpasses aren't part of our policies' and 'this has already been decided').

Friarage Road underpass closure I urge all people annoyed or affected by this proposal to write to Bucks Council, Ayesbury Vale Council and anyone else who is involed about it.

Note: Anyone who has clear details about this issue, such as masterplans or a clear cut answer as to which underpasses are to be infilled please e-mail me. All of the information I'm getting at present from a variety of official sources is very contradictory.
